At Thetford they have a passion for camping and travelling. Based on that passion, they develop sanitary systems, refrigerators, cooking appliances and toilet care products of high quality for the camping and water sports market. As a Manufacturing and Production company they make products that should give their end users a 100% carefree leisure experience. From Europe, America, China and Australia, nearly 2000 employees worldwide work together on product development where customer satisfaction is their highest goal.

The new generation of camping enthusiasts want to have a carefree experience and freedom when they are on vacation. With its products, Thetford offers exactly that to their end users. Thetford is a growing organisation with an ever-broader range of activities. Not only is their product portfolio rapidly expanding, but they are also gaining ground globally. In this way, they are reaching more and more markets and their production capacity is expanding worldwide.

Taken en verantwoordelijkheden

A substantial contribution is also expected from the Purchasing department to further expand Thetford's position while at the same time closely monitoring the cost side. That is why Thetford is looking for a Procurement specialist with the focus on NPD & Industrialisation for their location in Etten-Leur.

New product development is part of the core strategy. NPD is not just about innovation or change. It is certainly also about new culture, communication and working methods. Thetford's growth requires continuous improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency of these businesses. The Procurement Specialist NPD & Industrialisation plays a very important role within the NPDI (new product development & Introduction / Industrialisation) process. The I stands for Introduction (we prefer to use Industrialisation) where Procurement will ultimately contribute added value.

Because product development is in their DNA, you as a Procurement Specialist are in the lead when it comes to the decision-making process about the suppliers to be used. If we assume that 70-80% of the product costs can be attributed to the design process and materials used, then it is important that we purchase at low costs. These low costs are calculated according to the TCO principle. TCO is determined from the first line on paper to SOP.

Costs can be preventively and significantly saved if purchasing is involved from the very beginning and thinks along with the design to have a most efficient industrialisation take place at a later stage.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • You have an advisory role within the project, looking at product design, so that efficient choices can be made in sourcing (single source, sub-assembly, finished goods and own production).
  • After an inventory of the specifications (the internal customer, Project leaders, Engineers) you prepare RFIs and RFQs.
  • You independently define category strategies in function of the objectives of the project.
  • You are responsible for reliable sourcing and you will have to define an implementation approach looking at, and thinking about, co-design, co-manufacturing and if we are going to produce ourselves together with PE, think about the customer order decoupling point.
  • You make an inventory of Procurement and quality risks and record your findings for follow-up processes.
  • You must ensure that outsourcing is validated according to the defined specifications
  • In collaboration with the transport specialist and other departments you are responsible for setting up a reliable supply chain.

You are stubborn in a positive way / you are a type of person who should be slowed down rather than the other way around. In addition, you have at least 5 years of relevant purchasing experience within an international / production environment. You can supplement this with a higher professional education and technical training such as Purchasing Academy and or NEVI.

You also recognise yourself in the following competencies: stress resistant, flexible, team player, taking ownership, energetic, learning & curious, very strong communicative and excellent negotiating skills.

Finally, good command of the English language, spoken and written is an absolute must, do you speak a Dutch or another 2nd language in addition? Even better!

Are you made of the right ''ingredients'' and do you think you are the ideal candidate for our client? Then Thetford would like to offer you a challenging job within an inspiring work environment in which you can show what you have to offer. Obviously, in addition to a competitive salary, you can expect a good package of secondary conditions.
